YEAR 3/4
Adults working in the class | Your teachers are Mr Caswell (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and Miss Little (Wednesday) Teaching Assistants – Miss Roberts and Mrs Roblin |
Our aims are... | In year 3 and 4 we offer a multi-sensory and interactive approach to learning. The emphasis is firmly based on the key skills with all the children having input into their learning and in the choice of their activity. We look to build on the good work carried out in the Foundation Phase and increase the children’s independence. A detailed plan has been sent out via Dojo. |
Outdoor Learning | Outdoor learning will be a part of our everyday practice, where possible. |
Homework/ How can you help your child at home? | We value your role and look forward to working in partnership with you. Here are some ways you can become involved in your child’s learning experiences and help build a unique link between home and school:
|
Reading Expectations | We use the online reading scheme 'Reading Eggs' where pupils can develop their phonics at home and develop their reading and comprehension skills. Within Reading Eggs there is a fantastic Library section where children can choose all sorts of books appropriate for their age and ability. Please use this resource at home. Individual (1:1 reading with an adult) Independent (own choice) |
Spelling | The children will have dedicated spelling lessons in class but there is no requirement to learn them for a test. |
P.E. Days | We currently have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, Out door kit is required as the hall is currently unavailable. With the current situation, pupils can wear suitable clothing for PE days with a school jumper. |
ICT | All children have a Hwb e mail address and password and they need to learn these as soon as possible. There are a huge number of programs on this platform including word documents and we tend to use J2e in lower KS2 as this has a child friendly coding section, data handling and word processing etc. This is also an excellent way to share any work that the children complete at home. The children can access the internet via Hwb and it also has the encyclopaedia Britanica. https://hwb.gov.wales//britannica-digital-learning. The school also uses My Maths and Sumdog. |
Dinner money (payable via SQUID) Please ensure that your account is up to date. | |
Snack | Pengelli is a Healthy School therefore children are asked to have a healthy snack at break-times We have had to suspend fruit tuck due to Covid so children need to remember a healthy snack to be brought in daily for break time although we will hopefully be able to reopen this as restrictions ease (fingers crossed.) PLEASE DO NOT SEND NUTS IN AS WE HAVE SEVERAL CHILDREN WITH NUT ALLERGIES IN THE SCHOOL Water bottles to be brought in daily and taken home for washing. |
Speaking to a member of staff | If you wish to speak to a member of staff please remember that during school hours we are working with the children. Please ring the school office to arrange to speak to the class teacher or give a message to the clerk who will pass it on to the teacher. Every parent will also have a Dojo account where they can message staff during school hours. |
