YEAR 5/6
Adults working in the class | Croeso and Welcome to Year 5/6! The class will be taught by Miss Wilson Thursday mornings.
In Year 5 and 6 ... | we aim to offer a multi-sensory and interactive approach to learning. The emphasis is firmly based on the key skills with all the children having input into their learning. The children are given a variety of activities throughout the week and have an element of choice when they complete their activities. The emphasis is on promoting life skills including time management and prioritising. This term much of our work will be focussed around the transition project ‘Flight’. More detailed information can be found on the transition page of the website. To add some variety we will also be completing ‘mini projects’ based on the interests of the class.
Outdoor Learning | We aim to use the outdoors for both curriculum-based learning and will be participating in Forest School inspired activites.
Homework/ How can you help your child at home? | We value your role and look forward to working in partnership with you. Here are some ways you can become involved in your child’s learning experiences and help build a unique link between home and school:
Reading Expectations | There are various apps available to help with your child’s reading. The main one will be Reading Eggs. This should really be done as often as possible. Along with this, your child can be reading a range of reading materials including; novels, short stories, information books, graphic novels, recipes, instructions etc.
P.E. Days | Our P.E sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. We aim to carry out some form of physical exercise daily and ask that children come to school with appropriate footwear!
ICT | The children will use a variety of different apps and websites this year. We will be developing their Digital Competency through a variety of ICT lessons also. The ICT learning doesn’t have to stop in school; work can be continued at home by utilising Hwb, J2E and apps like Duolingo. |
Dinner money (payable via SQUID) Please ensure that your account is up to date. | |
Snack | Pengelli is a Healthy School therefore children are asked to have a healthy snack at break-times PLEASE DO NOT SEND NUTS IN AS WE HAVE SEVERAL CHILDREN WITH NUT ALLERGIES IN THE SCHOOL Water bottles to be brought in daily and taken home for washing.
Speaking to a member of staff | If you wish to speak to a member of staff please remember that during school hours we are working with the children. Please ring the school office to arrange to speak to the class teacher or give a message to the clerk who will pass it on to the teacher. I will try to respond to Class Dojo messages but this can often be difficult during the school day. |
